A funeral at sea is an ancient and time honored tradition dating back to the time men first went to sea. It is a dignified and simple alternative to a conventional funeral. It offers a peaceful resting place for those you care most about.
Marina del Rey boating companies offer professional Placements At Sea and Ash Scattering at Sea services aboard a variety of vessels which are harbored in the marina.
Memorial Services
Customized memorial services can be arranged by captains experienced in performing ceremonies at sea in compliance with laws and regulations.
Memorial services take many forms, from a simple unattended scattering of cremains, to elaborate memorial services including friends and relatives, with a clergy of your choice.
The most important thing is to create a farewell event that is meaningful and satisfying to you and to others who will participate, and to establish a means of memorialization that best suits your needs and your loved one's wishes.
Understanding the Process
In “Placements at Sea”, cremated remains are sealed in a bio-degradable urn which is “placed” in the water to descend to the seabed.
In “Ash Scattering at Sea” the cremated remains are poured from the urn onto the water surface and gradually descend to a greater area of the seabed. Both placement and ashes scattering are conducted in waters at least 500 yards off shore. Often, after scattering the ashes, the yacht will slowly circle any flowers cast on the water during the ceremony.
